We're off...

to San Diego for the weekend.  Dustin and Dad are in Las Vegas for the final race of the year and so the kids, mom, and I are taking off to San Diego to get more use out of our Sea World and San Diego Zoo annual passes before they expire.  Say a prayer for everyones safe travels.  And I promise to post lots of pictures when we get back.

Also, I know some of you are anxiously awaiting pictures of Jayden's totally awsome, spectacula,r wonderful, stupendious, carnival party BUT at this point I do not have any.  As soon as I get some from the people who actually had time to take them I will be sure to post them right away.  (So if you have them....this is a hint that I need them!!)

So I have been slacking

I don't have my camera right now. I lent it to a friend, and my computer is on the fritz. I will be posting new blogs just as soon as I can find the time to wait for my slow computer. Sgt. Benjamin Portell Foundation

Race day is Saturday!

For those of you who do not know. Sgt. Benjamin Portell was my husband’s best friend who passed away in Iraq on December 26, 2007. A foundation was set up in his name at Riverlakes Community Church here in his hometown of Bakersfield, CA.The foundation helps youth attend church camp, such as Hume Lake, who would otherwise not be able to go because of monetary reasons. Ben was able to attend Hume Lake camp because someone cared enough to help him in this way when he was a child and this cause is a great way to honor him and it combines two things that were close to his heart.

Dustin (my husband) has set up a Memorial Race for this coming Saturday, September 20th. We will be holding a 50/50 raffle where the winner will win 50% of the pot and the other 50% will be donated to the Sgt. Benjamin Portell fund from Famoso Dragway and friends.

We had a small raffle earlier in the year without the race being sponsored in his name and we earned $500 for the foundation (thanks to the winner donating his winnings back).We hope to greatly exceed that number this weekend!!Here are the details about Saturday's race - even if you can’t make a donation please come, have a great day watching the races and show your support!

It is being held at Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.

I believe gates open at 9 am, and qualifying starts at 11am

To enjoy a full day of racing, be there between 10:30 or 11:00.

New Blog

I realized how quickly this blog was becoming all about Creative Celebrations. I may still give a Creative Celebrations update on the Harris Blog from time to time because it is very much a part of my life but I will stick mostly to family updates and info. Okay so this is the second logo I've made and this one is much better than the first but it is still quit temporary. But it is not bad for being created in MS Word!! Feel free to copy and re post it. Excuses, Excuses

Sorry I have not been blogging much lately I have been working hard to get my computer up to par during every spare moment and I think I am going to just break down and re-install windows. I am very nervous about doing it as I don't want to loose anything. I am going to be working at going through my computer file by file to see what I need to back up. I am looking for software disks that I have no idea where they are (packed somewhere with my whole life) so that I can make sure I have what I need once I reinstall but nothing I don't so I can get my computer back up to speed. I am so excited about getting my business going but it would take forever to get the slide shows I have planned on this snail. So it will be faster in the long run to fix the computer first then move onto the slide shows, allbeit not near as much fun. My brother has been a huge help when I call him nightly crying about my computer and not being able to decide what I want to do about it. I am sure he is sick of me and can't wait till I fix it.

So tonight I have home group and I am SO excited and when I get home I will be working late backing up files. Say a prayer I don't royally mess it up :) I will blog an update tonight even though none of you read this (or leave a comment) anyways (except my sister). :) Love you all!

Picture Project Update

So I am the proud new owner of a MyBook external hard drive and I LOVE IT!!! It is nearing midnight and I have successfully transfered all of my pictures to the MyBook. I have also successfully backed up all of my 2004, 2005, & 2006 pictures to a disk. So hopefully tomorrow morning before work I can burn CD's of my 2007 and 2008 [that aren't already done] backed up and then I will be able to breath easy and move on the actually creating. I would love to get my programs downloaded and start creating slide shows tomorrow night.

For those of you who doubted that my pictures could take over my hard drive---get this---by simply transferring my pictures I have freed up nearly 33% of my hard drive that was down to 2% available prior to this work.

This was long overdue but I just didn't want to spend the money for the external hard drive. Once it because absolutely necessary I just broke down and got it. I feel super accomplished now that it is almost done. It has been a great day, and I am going to bed with a smile on my face. I thank the Lord for my many blessings and finding joy in the small things.

Yeah Me

I am so so excited!! I just got home from Best Buy and I not only got a card reader to take care of the picture download problem but I also got an external hard drive. I have been gearing up to start my own little side business (see previous blog) but my computer is so loaded down with pictures that I only have 2% of my hard drive available. Thus my computer is slower than a snail and I don't have room for the programs I need. So with my new external hard drive--problem solved. I am very anxious to start organizing and moving my 1000's and 1000's of pictures. It will be a big project for sure. But the sooner I get that done the sooner I can start working on my new promo slide shows. It sure is a benefit that my little sis just had a baby and by best friend just got married what better shows to promo and they will make great gifts for them too. Keep an eye out for new slide shows.

After putting her back-pack away, meeting her teacher, and looking at the list to see which friends would be in her class, Taylor was so excited about all of the books in her desk. She said "this isn't 1st grade anymore Mom, I am a second grader now and we need more books." I am so proud of her!!

Joshua and Jayden, they were so excited to see each other. They kept telling each other "I missed you!" & picked up just where they left off last year talking about their birthday parties (Jayden's is in November) but for some reason they are obsessed about Birthday parties.

My babies aren't babies any more. I am so so proud of them!

Such a little man. Sure looks like he is too big for Pre-K and he thinks he is too.

My blogging glitch

So I have pinpointed my problem in why I can't keep this blog up to date. It is not for lack of time. I get on here EVERY day to see if there are any new comments. It has become part of my just got home need to de-stress routine when I get home from work. Along with checking my MySpace and seeing if anyone else has posted any new blogs.

It is simply because I CANNOT find the cord that connects my camera to my computer. To get any of my pictures onto my computer I have to first go to CostCo to download them, then go BACK to pick up the disk, only to come home and put them on the computer. I have decided that this over complicated process can be no longer. I am going to attempt to go to Best Buy tomorrow to see if I can find a USB cord to fit my Kodak and then asses whether it is in my budget or not. I am really hoping it is so. I would love to be able to stop paying to have my pictures put on a CD and just burn them myself and spare me the ever valuable time spent on my endless trips to CostCo.

I've been pondering......

I have made a few slide shows for various occasions (sadly-mostly funerals). One of my besties, Rachelle, got me started on them. I would really like to start turning this hobby into a business and make them for more joyous occasions. I have already been contemplating and scheming for a slide show for Dustin's 30th birthday party and he is only going to be turning 28 next month. But after being up until 3 AM blogging last night I am in a very creative mood and was running business names through my head. So I am thinking, drum roll please....................Creative Creations........slogan.............making your memories last a lifetime. Since I am looking into doing digital scrap booking and may incorporate that in somehow too I don't want slides or slide show to be in the name. My Best Friend's Wedding

A week ago today I was driving as fast as I could get away with, in order to get to Vanessa and Gary's wedding. It was well worth the rush and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. It was a beautiful ceremony. I was so proud to see her so happy. Below are just a few of the pictures.

Disney World

So as most of you know we went to Disney World last month. So this post has been a long time coming!! We had a blast!! I can't wait to go back already. The weather was hot at times but more than bearable. JayDee's favorite ride was Fast Track at Epcot, and it was a very cool ride. I don't think Taylor's changed from here to FL, I believe she is sticking with Soarin'. I think Dustin and I are Rockin' Roller Coaster converts. We rode it with Mary while everyone else waited, boy did they miss out. I have never been on a cooler coaster in my life. Jayden is our little dare devil and wasn't scared of a thing. He would cry if he wasn't tall enough for a ride and say "but I AM big not Mommy". Taylor is not quite so brave but she tries her best, bless her heart. I couldn't help but laugh when we were on Tower of Terror (which she has rode at CA Adventure before) and she looked over at me and said with the utmost conviction "GET ME OFF THIS THING!!" When all said and done she said it wasn't that bad but it will be years before we get her back on it.

Our most pleasant surprise was the water parks. I had no clue how much fun they could be. So much fun I even forgot I was wearing a bathing suit in front of thousands of people. We have decided that we will be visiting the more local water slides soon and often. At the water parks neither of the kids showed any fear. Even when I was shaking in my flip flops they were running to the front of the line. Our sister for life, Michelle Portell, was able to come meet us for a day. She had just moved to FL, in fact her car had only arrived the day before. We had a wonderful time with her and can't wait until our next visit.

Our trip home was another story. After many delays our flights were canceled and we spent the night on the AirPort floor and took off the next morning.....oh but the good news doesn't stop there. They could not get us to LA where our car and luggage were. The closest they could get us was Vegas and we had to got to LA ourselves to gather our things.

Below are just a few pictures. We had two cameras between Dustin and I. Mom and Mary both had their's too. I only have one on CD and in the computer so far. So here are a few of them. I will try to post more later.

Bad News :(

I wanted to let everyone know, and this was the easiest was without repeating myself over and over. We are not going to be getting the house. It just wasn't meant to be. God has other plans and hopefully I can figure them out soon because it stinks to be let down. I am trying to stay positive but it's not easy. There are a lot of what ifs playing out in my head and well that doesn't help anything. So please pray that I can put on my big girl panties and get over it. But for now I am heart broken......

It's really happening.....

So it's not like we have the keys yet or anything, but we have started doing little things that are making it feel real. Tomorrow Mom (Rhonda) is going to pick up the carpet. We have started getting estimates on a couple things like insulation (for the walls) and extending the cement slab in the back--for Dustin's trailer. I am so excited, I just can't hide it.....you know the rest.

Other than that I am just enjoying the calm before the storm. Pretty soon this house, we are going to call home, is going to take over our lives and be all consuming for a couple of months. We are taking it easy and enjoying this down time. But that doesn't stop me from shopping and doing the fun part.

Moving Update

So I just wanted to give everyone a quick update. We are out of the apartment. I still have to load a few things into the POD and clean everything of course, but we are moved out and staying with Nana and Papa (Mom and Dad Harris).

We hope to turn in the apartment keys by Friday. It's a little harder to get things done during the work week than on the weekend.

To the above-left is a picture of the house that I downloaded from the MLS. It's a tiny picture and it's a before picture but that's our house. I can't wait to get the keys! Until then we will be swimming, playing, shopping, planning and enjoying our summer before it becomes all work and no play.

Moving, Moving, Moving.....yes, I know AGAIN

We are moving again!! But this will be the last time, for years and years at least. We bought a house!! We are so excited!! We plan on being out of our apartment this weekend. They found someone to move in faster than we had anticipated. We will be staying with Dustin's parents while escrow closes and while we do some remodeling. It is right across the street from their house, so it will be an easy trip everyday to walk over and work on it. We plan on doing most of the work ourselves, but will obviously have to contract out certain things. It is going to take lots and lots of work, but it is ours so it will all be worth it. Who would have ever thought I would be so excited about working up a sweat? More details to come and I will post before and after pictures as soon as they become available. I just wanted to make sure everyone was in to loop. We love you all!!!

Forever Timeless Photos

We took our first family picture in years last night with Forever Timeless Photos (Mary-my sister in law, link below) we had a great time. Jayden ended up soaking wet and so did the photographer but we had a ton of fun and even got some great pictures in the process.

My Harris Happenings Update

So a lot of little things (one only in size) have been happening lately, all of which have been keeping me away from the computer other than for work.

The most exciting of which is that my nephew is here. Logan Eli Hatton born 5/5/2008 at 12:59 PM. Weighing in at 7 lbs, 9 ozs., & 21 inches long. He is oh so precious. I get to go meet my little Logi Bear on the 29th. I am counting down the days and cannot wait. His big cousins are oh so excited too!!! We have all waited a long time for him, he came in God's time and we could not be more thankful.

I had a wonderful Mother's Day! We spend the morning and early afternoon at church and my kids made me the cutest gifts. They sure know how to make my heart melt! We then went home and picked up Daddy who was waiting and ready to go. We went to CostCo to pick up a magazine rack that I wanted. I love it and really want to go get one more! Dustin also got me a bathing suite. We then went to lunch, and I chose Chuck-E-Cheese!! Who wants to spend their mother's day lunch shushing their kids and telling them to sit still. So we went to the place where a kid can be a kid, and Mommy and Daddy can be kids too!!! Then we headed home and had some cuddles before Daddy had to go to work. We then put on our suits and went out to the pool at the apartment. It was the first time we have used it and it was really nice. It is not very large and gets quite a few hours of sun, so it wasn't too cold. I even jumped in myself. The kids played and played for a couple of hours. Then with only a few steps we were back home and Jayden was in the bath. We ate a quick dinner since we had a big lunch earlier and the kids were off to bed. With no whining since they had tucked themselves out. It was a wonderful ending to a perfect day.

I want to say thank you to my Mommy for teaching me the value of family. Not only me immediate family but extended family as well. You also taught me that, you don't have to share blood to be family. You teaching me those things has helped make me who I am today. It is one of my best qualities and I have you to thank for that. I love you Mommy, more than words can say.

I want to thank my Mom (in-law; just so I don't confuse anyone) for teaching me to slow down and cherish every moment with my family, especially my kids. I tend to get caught up in the tasks aspects of the day to day. You remind me with a few kind words that, that is not what is most important in life. I love you and am so blessed to have you in my life.

These two women help make me who I am and I don't know what I would do without either one of them. I feel like God has truly blessed me with two great female role-models (not to say anything of the males, but it is mother's day, you'll get your Thank you's on Father's Day). Thank you both for just being who you are and making me who I am. I am so proud to call you both my Moms; I can only hope that you are even a fraction as proud to call me your daughter.

A good friend, you know who you are, recently reminded me that it's not only about cherishing the moments with my kids but finding pure joy in them and getting down and having fun. So what if I look goofy. I have always found joy in my children's smiles and giggles, but who says I can't just smile and giggle with them. Being silly is awfully fun and addicting.

Along the same lines, God has been placing something on my heart that I did not want to hear. Jealously and envy have always been one of my greatest struggles. I have always justified in it that they were goals and ambitions, but recently I realize that I was really letting "wanting" affect me. While I would still love to have the things I was longing for, such as being a stay at home mom, I have stopped let the "wanting" keep me from being happy with all of the many blessing that I have. I am learning to "love the life I live", while it is a process I feel like I have come a long way in the past couple of weeks.

I know this blog has been a hodge-podge of everything but if you know me you know that is how I work. If you've known me for any length of time you can probably even follow along with my random thoughts by now. I guess the unifying theme of this email is the strong women in my life. Like my baby sister who has wanted to be a Mommy for so long and never lost hope, my Mommy who is an amazing woman and raised 3 great kids, as well as influenced many many other kids (the countless foster kids), my Mom (in-law) who is an amazing woman and helps keep me on track and listens to y endless ramblings, and my friends who help keep me balanced! I love you all!!! Be proud of yourself, you are amazing women. Let this be a "pat on the back" to all the Mommy's. The work is hard, the hours are long, and we are under-paid but the reward is greater than any paycheck. I will leave you with a quote from Jill Churchhill that I got from a book I am reading "The most important thing I've learned over the years is that there is no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one." For me I am going to leave the perfection up to the Lord, since he is the only one that can get it right anyway; I am going to embrace just being "good".

Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series D-7 - Fontana
For the time in over a year, I was able to attend AND compete in a divisional event. This time it was in Fontana, California at Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway. When we were there last time for the Summit Series event I was able to figure out my throttle stop ratio, and was somewhat confident that it was right. We were unable to leave at a normal hour on Thursday, and ended up getting to the track at 1:30am and had to sleep in the truck out in the parking lot. It wasn't so bad actually. We got the car set up in the morning and when I made my first time run, I set up to run a 8.89 and the car ran a 8.88. Thank God, the ratio works. The car was still spitting out water and it was starting to bug me. We found the problem, there was a massive air bubble in the water lines, and so actually there was no water in the motor, which is a very very big problem. We got the bubble out and the motor full of water and it only dropped 6 drops out the overflow the rest of the weekend. In round one, I was paired up against Aaron Kinard, who was fresh off a D-6 win in Boise, Idaho and the current division 7 points leader, but he was no match for me in round one( not really, the weather was completely different for round 1 and I guessed better). In round 2 I raced Don Meziere and was able to get the round win with Don's -.057 red light. Round 3 found me against Gabe Torres, the youngest of the Torres family, which is full of talent. I had a .008 light and was able to back into him at the finish line and take a 8.92 8.90 holeshot win. In round 4, which was the furthest in competition I had ever been, while running super comp was against Rober Naber. He usually finishes the year in the top 10 in super comp D-7 points, and was lucky to get by him as he gave the finish line back to me and I took a .006 margin of victory. In round 5 I was up against Rick Beckstrom. Oh my God, would it be possible to get a easy round today. I was able to pull of another holeshot victory with a 8.91 to a 8.90 .011 margin of victory. I was now in the semi-finals and so happy just to be there with the talent of the people I was able to get by, it did not really matter what happened( yeah it did). In the semis I race Justin Morgan, and I was able to get a reaction time advantage, a small one .029 to .030, and as we got to the finish line I started backing into him, and as we crossed the finish line, my win light did not come on. DAMN-IT. It ended up being a double breakout race, 8.865 to a 8.869 for him. He was .004 closer to the 8.90 dial, so he won. I have no idea where that 8.86 came from. The part that hurts, is in the wallet. I won $300 for my semi-final finish, but at National and Divisional events, they pay contingency money. They only pay to the winner and runner-up, no one else. By my count, I lost out on a minimum of $600 in contingency alone. Oh well, what you going to do? It back to Famoso for Summit series 3, will post that tomorrow.

Dragracing Famoso Weekend

Summit Series 1-2 Famoso, April 26-27, 2008
The 2008 Summit Series at Famoso got started to great weather conditions, high 80's and not a cloud in the sky. Over the weekend we held a 50/50 raffle with the proceeds benefiting the Sgt. Benjamin Portell Foundation, which was started by his wife Michelle and his parents following his death in Iraq last December. The foundation helps the financially challenged kids be able to attend Hume Lake Winter Camp. With the help of my wonderful family, and the support of the great racers at Auto Club Famoso Raceway, and with a few last minute donations, we were able to raise $500 for the kids to go to camp. Thank you to all that bought a ticket and who helped out. Let me tell you, this drag racing thing, it plays with your mind and emotions. Just two weeks earlier in Fontana, I was runner-up after red-lighting in the finals, so one would assume, hey he's on a roll and is going to do good this weekend. HA HA.. if you only knew. Following two good practice runs, the old hot rod decided to crap out on me in the first round. Dialing a 8.28, and racing 2007 Pro National Champion Greg Dreher, the car took off stumbled, and shifted into 2nd gear and ran a 8.70, which of course was no where close to what it should have run and I lost in round number ONE. Sunday was going to be better day, right... NO not really. After making two runs in the morning, the car still was doing the same thing., and now it was blowing water out at the finish line. We played with the transmission, the carburetor and anything else that we could think of, and rolled up for first round unsure of what I had. I dialed a 8.70, because if it fixed the problem, then I could use the brake pedal and slow down, but if it did not fix the problem, there was no way that I could speed it up. When the car took off, and did not shift early like it had, I knew that we had fixed the problem, and I also knew that I was running 4 1/2 tenths of a second fast and needed to kill some e.t. So when I caught the guy, I started playing with the gas pedal, on and off 10 times, and even on the breaks as we went across the strip. I looked over, and no win light was on in my lane. I had run a 8.696 on my 8.70 dial, and broke out by .004 of a second. Not a good way to start the year in points, 2 races 2 first round losses. On the other hand, my brother Jeff, enjoyed his best outing of his career, advancing to the semi-final round where he fell to race winner. I will be posting my results from the Lucas Oil Division 7 in Fontana shortly, and those results will be better.

Prayer

I feel compelled to stop working just for a moment to type out a prayer for health. Recenly it seems my life has been filled with death and illness and enough is enough. I ask God to heal those around me that are ill and/or injured. And to heal the hearts of those who have lost so many. God has given me so much and I have so much to be tankful for. But that old addage "The Lord Giveith and the Lord taketh away" has been given a new meaning latley.

Dear Lord please heal those aournd me that are ill. Please be with my Grandpa Smith as he goes through chemo for the second time, please be with my Grandma Smith as she helps care for him, please lighten her burden and comfort both of them. Lord please be with my Grandma Baker and she recovers from her sugery. Lord please be with my sister as her difficult pregnancy comes to an end. Be with her & Tyler as they prepare to welcome their son into the world. I pray for an easy dilivery and a healthy baby boy. Lord please be with Dad Harris as his back is becoming worse by the day. Please be with him and Mom Harris as they look over the options and be with them and the Doctors give them wisdom and guidance. Lord please be with all of my Friends and Family as they deal with health issuses, please lay your heavenly hand on them and heal them NOW. Lord I pray for the Portell Family as they are still DEEPLY grieveing the loss of Ben. Please comfort them and draw them to you. I pray that they continue to seek you for strength. I thank you Lord for your many gifts and all that you have given me. One of the greatest gifts you have given me is my Family and Friends, I ask that you be with them, heal them, show them your love. And I pray that I am able to show them your love and compassion as they go through these troubled times. Amen.

Now I don't normally type out prayers through the keyboard but what a great way to make sure I get it all out and now I can come back and say this prayer daily. Please join me in praying for healing for my friends and family as well as yours.

So I had quit blogging for a while and stuck just to MySpace. And while I am still a MySpace addict, I figure why not have a blog spot too for all of those who don't have a MySpace.
